Fire Academy
Firefighters take calculated risks when it is necessary to save lives and property. Training is essential to being prepared to safely face those risks. If you are interested in becoming a firefighter, Buffalo VFD will provide opportunities for fire training, including sending personnel to the Fire Academy.
For High School students, dual credit Fire Academy can be offered in partnership with Kilgore College. In order to put on a dual credit high school class, we must have enough students to justify the class. If you are interested, please email robby@buffalofire.org for more information.
The dual credit class is for highschool juniors and seniors. It is a college level class that will include independant learning combined with classroom instruction and skills training that will span the fall and spring semesters. This will be followed by a 12 day skills training camp at Kilgore College. skills camp normally starts the first week in June. The skills camp will conclude with the class final, and the TCFP (Texas Commission on Fire Protection) written exam.
Students who successfully complete this course will earn TCFP Firefighter I, TCFP Firefighter II, TCFP Hazmat Awareness, and TCFP Hazmat Opperations certifications. They will also earn 23 college credit hours that apply to a fire science degree.
